Unlike PlayStation 4 Pro, the Xbox Scorpio will natively support 4K: Microsoft exec

Microsoft has confirmed that at least some of the games developed for the Xbox Scorpio will natively support 4K resolutions.
Referring to games developed by Microsoft for the Xbox Scorpio, Microsoft Studios publishing manager Shannon Loftis told USA Today, “Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K.”
The recently announced PlayStation Pro console was expected to support 4K as well, but Sony has since confirmed that the console will only upscale games to 4K rather than render them natively. Sony claims to be using advanced algorithms to achieve this.
The Xbox Scorpio is expected to arrive in “Holiday 2017,” giving the PlayStation 4 Pro a huge lead in the market. The PlayStation 4 Pro will be available for purchase starting 10 November this year at a price of $400 (around Rs 27,000).
However, Microsoft claims that the Xbox Scorpio will be almost 50 percent more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro (six TFLOPS vs. 4.14 TFLOPS). It’s clear from Loftis’ statement that the Xbox Scorpio will be capable of 4K gaming, but it’s also clear that other developers don’t necessarily have to support 4K.
Also, did you know that your PlayStation 4 now supports HDR?

Lenovo lays off over 700 Motorola employees

Lenovo has started its latest round of layoffs that is set to hurt Motorola employees, yet again. Lenovo had acquired Motorola back in 2014, and the new move is aimed at streamlining workforce after another sluggish quarter. However, it is said to impact two percent of the overall workforce, which is 55,000 employees globally.
The new number is pegged to be more than 50 percent of the remaining Moto workforce. According to DroidLife, over 700 out of the 1200 Motorola employees will be informed they’ve lost their jobs.
An official statement from Lenovo states:
Lenovo today announced a resource action impacting less than two percent of its approximately 55,000 employees globally. The majority of the positions being eliminated are part of the ongoing strategic integration between Lenovo and its Motorola smartphone business as the company further aligns its organisation and streamlines its product portfolio to best compete in the global smartphone market.
The company is also making adjustments in other areas of the business as part of a continued effort to manage costs, drive efficiency and support ongoing improvement in overall financial performance. While these actions are never easy, they are a necessary part of our continued efforts to ensure long-term, profitable growth across all of our businesses.
Lenovo is absolutely committed to Chicago and we plan to maintain our Motorola Mobility headquarters there. Chicago has a well-deserved reputation for technical excellence and as the hub of our global R&D for our smartphone business we expect to take advantage of local talent to continue developing Moto products there.
Many see it as the last step to merge Motorola completely into their own business. It was not too long ago that Motorola was renamed Moto by Lenovo. The move, as stated above, is also a change in its strategy to improve financial performance.
Meanwhile, AndroidPolice claims that Motorola has lost more than 95 percent of its employees in the last four years. It should be noted that Google acquired Motorola in 2012, and sold it to Lenovo in 2014

Instead of spending $1.3 million, FBI could have Hacked iPhone in just $100

fbi-iphone-unlock
Do you remember the infamous encryption fight between the FBI and Apple for unlocking an iPhone 5C belongs to a terrorist?

Yes, you got it right, the same Apple vs. FBI case where the FBI paid almost $1.3 Million to a group of hackers to unlock that iPhone.

However, if the agency had shown some patience to explore more ways to get into that iPhone, then it might have cost them nothing less than US$100.

Yes, you heard that right. Now anyone can unlock an iPhone for less than $100, for which the FBI paidmore than $1 million.

Cheap Method to Unlock iPhone 5C

Cambridge University security researcher Sergei Skorobogatov has published a new research paper detailing a technique that would have helped the FBI bypass the iOS passcode limit on the shooter's iPhone 5C.

Dubbed NAND Mirroring, the technique was proposed to the FBI earlier this year, but the agency claimed that the method would not work. "It does not work," FBI Director James Comey said back in March, and instead paid a hefty amount to a contractor.

In his research paper published on Thursday, Skorobogatov says that the FBI was just wrong in its assessment of NAND Mirroring, but also spent $1 million of taxpayers' funds on a case that could have been solved for a few hundred dollars.

Here's How the Researcher Unlocked iPhone 5C:

NAND Mirroring technique "does not require any expensive and sophisticated equipment. All needed parts are low cost and were obtained from local electronics distributors," writes Skorobogatov.

During his test, Skorobogatov used store-bought equipment, stripped down an iPhone 5C running iOS 9.3, carefully removed the NAND memory chip from the phone’s circuit board, and copied its data to a special test board many times over.

The researcher then used an automated software to brute force the passcode until he found the correct code and said it takes around 20 hours to brute-force a four-digit passcode, while few weeks with a six-digit one.
"This is the first public demonstration of…the real hardware mirroring process for iPhone 5C," Skorobogatov writes. "Any attacker with sufficient technical skills could repeat the experiments."
So far, the FBI and Apple have not commented on Skorobogatov's research.

The Method Works on iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 Devices

Besides iPhone 5C, his attack also works on iPhone 5S as well as iPhone 6 devices using the same type of NAND Flash memory. The attack can also be adapted on other iPhones using different NANDs.

For more technical details about this technique to bypass iPhone's passcode security limit, you can head onto his research paper.

You can also watch the video demonstration, where Skorobogatov explained the NAND Mirroring technique

How to Use Siri on Your Mac: A Quick Start Guide

Controlling your Mac with your voice has never been easier. Here’s what you can do, and how to personalize the experience.

Hear the Voice

You’re asked to activate Siri during the macOS Sierra setup process. You can do this later by visitingSystem Preferences > Siri. On this screen, you can configure some things about how Siri works, including the default language and voice.

Siri on Mac is available in many languages, including multiple versions of Chinese, English, and Spanish. In the United States, most are familiar with the American female voice. You can change this to an American male voice, a male/female Australian and British voice, plus female versions of Irish and South African English voices. Each accent changes the general Siri experience on Mac. Play around with these to find the one that best suits your needs.Voice of Siri Susan Bennett Tells MakeUseOf How Siri Changed Her Life Voice of Siri Susan Bennett Tells MakeUseOf How Siri Changed Her LifeAt the forefront of Apple's original caring, often funny voice-powered assistant is a voice recognized the world over. Unlike Siri on iOS, Apple’s voice assistant on Mac doesn’t respond when you say “Hey Siri”. Instead, to begin a query, click the Siri icon in the Mac dock or menubar in the top-right of the screen. You can also set up a keyboard shortcut.
Under System Preferences you’ll find the following options:
  • Voice feedback — With this setting on, Siri responds to queries with a voice and by text. With this setting off, responses arrive through text only.
  • Mic input — If you have external microphones, you can use this setting to select it.
  • Keyboard shortcut — You can use any keyboard combination to activate Siri, withCommand+ Space being the default. You can also select from Option + Space and Function + Space. You can create different shortcuts by selecting Customize.

About Siri and Security

In macOS Sierra, Apple provides a lengthy security statement on Siri. Located on the Siri Settings page under “Siri and Privacy,” the report explains how Apple analyzes Siri queries. You should read this statement, especially as it relates to how Siri handles questions relating to Mac documents.Siri Is Listening: Has iOS Privacy Been Blown Open? Siri Is Listening: Has iOS Privacy Been Blown Open?Apple's has been accused of recording everything - absolutely everything - you say to Siri, and passing it to a third-party. On this point, Apple notes:
When you use Siri to search for your documents, the Siri request is sent to Apple, but the names and the content of your documents are not sent to Apple. The search is performed locally on the Mac.

Siri on Mac offers a lot of useful features, even as a first generation release. These features fall into two broad categories, which we’ll call workflow and entertainment.

Let’s Get to Work

One of the main reasons to use Siri on your Mac is to improve and speed up your workflow. Central to this is Siri’s broad search capabilities. By just asking a question, Siri can find any document that resides on your Mac.Ditch The Dock To Speed Up Your Mac Workflow Ditch The Dock To Speed Up Your Mac WorkflowWhile the dock can't be entirely eliminated, there are many powerful alternatives that can reduce your dependence on using the dock as an app launcher.READ MORE

Finding Your Files

For example, you need to find a file with “2015” in the title. You don’t know the location of the file or its full file name. Before the arrival of Siri, you would type “2015” into Spotlight and hope for the best. With Siri, search becomes more efficient and yes, personal.
In our example, we could ask Siri:
  • “Show me all files with ‘2015’ in the title.”
  • “Show me files with ‘2015’ in the title, opened in 2016.”
  • “Show me all records with ‘2015’ in the title, located in the Desktop folder.”
Do you use Dropbox or OneDrive? As long as a folder is accessible from your Mac, Siri can search through it, even when those are remote files.

Siri Loves Photos

Enjoy snapping photos? Siri can search for images with ease thanks to new tagging features in Photos for Mac in macOS Sierra. You can also use Siri to find images from the web.
Siri Find Photos of Sunset on the Web
For example, you could ask Siri:
  • “Find photos from July 2014.”
  • “Find pictures of a sunset on the web.”
  • “Show me the NBC logo.”
  • “Find my photos from the beach.”
  • “Show me photos with Jon.”
Of course, for that last one to work you’ll need to open up Photos and label “Jon” under the newPeople album.

Conversions and Sums

Need to find a percentage quickly? Want to multiply two large numbers? Wondering how many feet are in 9 metres? Making a purchase overseas and wondering what it’ll cost in your local currency. These are all supported by Siri, simply ask:
  • “What’s 17% of 350?”
  • “How much is 45 multiplied by 300?”
  • “How many miles is 75 kilometers?”
  • “What is 500 US dollars in Australian dollars?”

Composing Documents

You can also create documents with Siri on Mac. To do so, start with a command such as “Send John a text” or “Send John an email”. From there, Siri will prompt you to compose the message using your voice.
Siri Mac Messages
When completed, Siri sends the message automatically. You can also use Siri to compose tweets, Facebook posts, and more. You cannot write documents in applications like Pages and Word with Siri. In this release, Siri cannot work with any third-party applications, unlike its iOS counterpart.
You could always try composing documents and longer passages with your Mac’s dictation feature though. Can You Write A Whole Article Using Voice Dictation on the Mac? Drag and Drop

Images, files, and other information Siri finds are easy to add to a folder. Just drag the results right to a window on your Desktop. Better still, you can pull images found on the web into Mac applications such as Pages and Numbers.

Free Space and Battery

Siri is also very good at finding critical information about your Mac, including free space and battery percentage.Calibrate & Maintain Your MacBook Battery For Best Performance Calibrate & Maintain Your MacBook Battery For Best PerformanceIf you correctly calibrate and maintain your MacBook battery, it's possible to improve performance and put off replacing it for as long as possible.READ MORE
To find this information, simply ask Siri:
  • “How much free space do I have?”
  • “How much battery do I have left?”
Whether it’s helping you compose a message or helping you find a relevant file, Siri on Mac has you covered.

The Fun Stuff

Your Mac likes to have fun too, and so does Siri. At launch, the voice assistant already knows a lot about the outside world, including sports news, Twitter results, weather, and more. Among the commands to try:
  • “What’s happening in the world?”
  • “What’s the weather in New York City?”
  • “Did the Boston Red Sox win yesterday?”
  • “What’s the latest from Twitter?”
Depending on your question, you can pin the results to Notification Center. By doing so, everything about that topic stays up to date. To pin an item, click on the “+” button at the top right of the Siri query result.
Sports Game Summary Siri on Mac
For example, the question “When do the New England Patriots play next” offers the results you see above. The Siri box contains information on the next two football games, including a score, when applicable. Notice that it also features the + button to pin this information to your Mac’s Notification Center.
To pin the entire future schedule of your favorite sports team, tell Siri something like, “New England Patriots schedule for 2016”.
Siri Find Cinema Movies Playing
There are a few more entertainment-related commands to get you started with Siri.
  • “What’s on at the cinema?”
  • “How many miles to Columbus, OH?”
  • “How many days until Thanksgiving?”
Siri on Mac is packed full of beneficial features even on day one. Just imagine what the future holds in future macOS releases.

How to Unlock More Options on the PS4 Quick Menu

One existing tool that received a tweak is the Quick Settings menu. Before the update, this menu included a few power options and quick controls to adjust headset volume mix or quit your game. In Update 4.0, this menu now only takes up the left side of the screen and is revamped to include more frequently used options.
The defaults include toggling your online status and viewing online friends, but you can add even more to this menu to make it better for you. To do so, hold down the PS button for a few seconds to open the Quick Settings menu, then scroll down to Customize. Choose Menu Items to add more options.
Here, you’ll be able to add a few additional options to the menu. These include Party for quickly joining or managing a party and Accessibility to access options such as making the font larger or customizing button inputs.
