Microsoft launches app to let users stream Xbox One titles on the Oculus Rift

Microsoft launches app to let users stream Xbox One titles on the Oculus Rift

By
Microsoft has launched the free Xbox One Streaming app for the Oculus Rift. Users will need a Windows 10 PC, an Xbox One and Oculus Rift on the same wireless network for the streaming to work. At launch there is support for Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, and Halo 5: Guardians. Support for more titles, including sport and indie titles are planned for 2017. A few backward compatible Xbox 360 games will also be supported.
The feature is an extension of a feature that allowed Xbox One titles to be streamed to a Windows 10 machine. The Oculus Rift works with Windows 10 natively, so there is no need to install or configure additional software. The machine should be capable of supporting VR experiences, so the minimum requirements are on the higher side. Users will also require a free Xbox One Live account for the streaming feature to work. An Xbox One controller is used as input for the titles.
Previously, the Microsoft and Oculus teams had worked together to bring Oculus Rift support to the beta version of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition. The experience allows users to play Minecraft on a virtual flat screen television, or dive into the game at any point for an immersive 360 degree Minecraft experience. At the Microsoft’s Windows 10 “Creators Update” event in October, Microsoft demonstrated its own VR glasses.

The final DLC for 'Call of Duty: Black Ops III' arrives on Xbox One, PC this week

By Shawn Knight on October 3, 2016, 10:30 AM

The fourth and final DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops III is set to arrive later this week for Xbox One and PC gamers.

Dubbed Salvation, the DLC includes four new multiplayer maps and the last chapter in the Zombies storyline. Citadel, set in the ruins of an ancient castle and Micro, a miniature war zone that takes place on an oversized picnic table (yeah, you can’t make this stuff up) are both brand new while Outlaw – a remake of the Standoff map from Black Ops II – and Rupture – made in the image of the Outskits map from Call of Duty: World at War – should feel somewhat familiar to longtime CoD fans.

Salvation, which has been a PlayStation 4 exclusive for the past month, lands on Xbox One and PC on October 6. Those with a season pass should be able to download the DLC automatically later this week; otherwise, expect to pay $14.99 if purchased individually.

The final DLC makes way for the next major release in the CoD series, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which is set to arrive on November 4. The game was initially met with lots ofcriticism from fans that aren’t thrilled about Activision’s insistence on pushing the franchise further into the future. To make matters worse, the next Battlefield game (Call of Duty’s main rival) is taking gameplay back to the WWI era.

Battlefield 1 is set for release on October 21 followed by Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare a couple of weeks later on November 4.

Microsoft has managed to sell 20mn Xbox One units; from its original target of 200mn

Microsoft has managed to sell 20mn Xbox One units; from its original target of 200mn

US tech giant Microsoft originally aimed to sell 200 million consoles of Xbox One but only managed to sell about 20 million units since its launch in 2013, media reported on Monday.
“The goal that the team had was to figure out how could we sell 200 million game consoles. We have never seen a console sell that many units. The biggest individual console, the PS2, did 120 million or something like that,” technology website TechTimes quoted Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, as saying.
Xbox One houses TV capabilities and the company also created the Xbox Entertainment Studios, a division aimed at creating TV and film content for the console, similar to Netflix, but the product focussed more on

Microsoft Adds Minecraft Favorites Xbox One S Bundle, Includes PC Edition Beta Code

Microsoft announced the Xbox One S Minecraft Favorites Bundle, which includes not only a download code for the Xbox One edition of Minecraft, but also the associated Favorites and Builder's Packs. The cherry on top is a beta download code for Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition for PC.
The recently-announced Xbox One S is the thinnest Xbox One console on the market, and it sports a few features that the original Xbox One lacks, such as the ability to play 4K Blu-ray discs.
The Xbox One S Minecraft Favorites Bundle ships with a white chassis and a 500 GB HDD, and it’s available now in the U.S. for $300. This bundle will spread to other parts of the world later this year, starting with the UK and Europe on October 11, and then landing in Australia and New Zealand on November 1. The announcement stated that it's "coming soon" to Latin America and Asia; one imagines that "soon" means "in time for holiday shopping."
