Asus ROG GX800: Republic of Games series has the most powerful gaming laptop for Rs 7,97,990

Asus’ Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the launch of Asus ROG GX800. The company claims that this gaming is laptop is the most powerful on the planet right now. However, the device can be ordered on request for an insane price of Rs 7,97,990 as GX800 comes equipped with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 in SLI configuration. GX800 also comes with an advanced version of Hydro Overclocking system with cools the laptop through the liquid-cooling module. This allows gamers to overclock and squeeze extra performance out of the gaming beast. It helps the users push GX800 frequencies from 3.2GHz to 4.4GHz.

On the specifications side, GX800 comes with an 18-inch display along with a 4K UHD resolution. The laptop is equipped with Nvidia G-Sync technology that adds support to virtual-reality headsets. GX800 comes along with Mechanical Tactical Advanced Gaming (MechTAG) keyboard that features ROG Aura RGB LED lights that can be programmed in any configuration according to the choices of the user. Each key on the keyboard can be programmed separately. GX800 succeeds the GX700 which was the first gaming laptop to use liquid-cooling.

To prove the point Asus claims that GX800 scored a score of 10395 in the Fire Strike Ultra test in 3DMark benchmarking software. The machine as two 330W power adaptors to cope with demands.

The cooling module has two radiators that help the coolant dissipate heat after it is pumped and circulated around the processor and graphics card. The company reports that the overclocking system allows the machine to deliver smooth VR experience with the frame rates over 90fps.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe review: Good but just not good enough

Asus seemed to have turned a new leaf when the company showcased a barrage of new smartphones, at Computex 2016 in Taiwan back in June. Since then we have seen more premium looking devices come from Asus featuring metal construction (instead of plastic bits) and Qualcomm chipsets (from Intel chips). Asus basically moved from the budget segment into the mid-range and the premium smartphone market in India. After smartphones like the Zenfone 3 and the Zenfone 3 Max Asus finally announced the phablet-sized Zenfone 3 Ultra and the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, its first flagship smartphone.

Asus’ hardware and software choices in the past may have not been the best, but in the flagship space things get pretty competitive and even the smallest drawbacks can and will make buyers look at another brand. Things can only get worse when you’re under the radar for being a new entrant in a segment flooded with established brands. So does Asus’ first flagship smartphone cut it? At Rs 49,999 (for the Snapdragon 820 model) how does it compete with premium offerings from LG, Sony, HTC and Samsung? Let’s find out!

Build and Design: 7.5/10

I am impressed by the fit, finish and the precision of the build quality of the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe. I liked how Asus managed to conceal the antenna bands as well resulting in a rather clean layout that makes one wonder whether the rear cover is made of plastic or metal? Well, it’s metal and it surely feels premium when holding it. The company calls this Asus PureMetal technology and for now, no other manufacturer out there offers the anything close to it. However, with the ‘Deluxe’ tag, I expected something more than impressive, and this flagship Zenfone is anything but that.

Look at it from the front and it looks similar to the Zenfone 3, minus the 2.5D glass. Flip it over and the back looks similar to every other new Asus handset including the Zenfone 3 Laser. My problem with the design is that it’s not something that anyone around me in the office tagged as premium or different, something that stands out.

There’s no curved edge display and those bezels aren’t exactly razor thin either when you consider the thick black border that sits between the display and the frame. This flagship smartphone is not water and dust resistant either and this is a concern when you keep the competition in mind.

In fact, I can easily say that the Asus logo on the back is off by 2-3 millimetres and not perfectly straight by just glancing at the smartphone’s back. In short, it’s not exactly what one would expect when you pay Rs 49,999 for a flagship.

Customers expect flagships to look different (if not attractive). In fact, I found the Zenfone 3’s design a lot better looking and pleasing even though the bezels at the top and bottom where thicker.

Asus Z01HDA smartphone with dual-camera setup clears TENAA

Taiwan based smartphone and IT product maker Asus will be launching a new smartphone soon. The information comes from Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA where an Asus handset with model number Z01HDA. It could be yet another ZenFone 3 smartphone from Asus and considering the time period, it should be announced at CES 2017.

According to the listing, the smartphone will be running on Snapdragon 625 chipset and will sport a 5.5-inch Full HD display. Memory options include 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB, with storage coming in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The dual-lens camera setup is clearly visible at the back and the handset’s Bluetooth SIG listing mentions 12.2MP+13MP . It also has the ZenFone 3 Zoom moniker, which means it could be an update to the ZenFone Zoom.

A 13MP unit is said to be on the front, while the battery is rated at 4,850mAh which is definitely huge. There is also a fingerprint scanner at the back and the smartphone will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. Colour variants would include Navy Black, New Crafts Silver and Luxury Gold color options.

If the smartphone does become a reality, it will be the first dual-lens camera equipped smartphone from Asus. Also since the original ZenFone Zoom tried to bring a loseless zoom experience on a smartphone, we can assume that the purpose of the dual-lens setup on the upcoming smartphone would be to add digital zoom without any quality loss.

Asus announces its first laptops with Nvidia’s GTX 1070 graphics cards built in. Prices start at Rs 1,81,990

Asus has unveiled a couple of Nvidia GTX 1070-toting laptops in India. The two devices pack in enough hardware to make a decent gaming rig blush.

To those not in the know, Nvidia’s 10xx series of graphics cards offer a significant bump in performance when compared to the previous generation. These GPUs, in addition to being more powerful, are also more energy efficient and include modules specifically for enhancing VR performance.
