Giving away a warning to all WhatsApp users across the globe, a report said that clicking on the links circulated on instant messaging app may expose and make them vulnerable to cyberattacks.
According to a report in The Sun newspaper, hackers are using simple tricks to fool people into visiting booby-trapped websites and then fleecing them.
Recently, Whatsapp rolled out video calling and scammers are taking the advantage of this new feature as bait to tempt people into their trap.
“If you receive an email asking you to “activate” the function by visiting a website, make sure you don’t click it. Anyone who is tricked into visiting the danger pages could end up being targeted by digital criminals,” the report pointed out.
Earlier this month, announcing that India now has nearly 160 million monthly active users, WhatsApp launched a video calling feature here which was rolled out globally. The feature is available on all platforms — Android, iOS and Windows.
WhatsApp is available in more than 50 different languages around the world and in 10 Indian languages. Nearly 100 million calls are being made on the platform daily worldwide.
With the video calling feature, WhatsApp will now compete with Microsoft-owned Skype and Google’s Duo.

Ericsson has released a new Ericsson Mobility Report forecasting the trends in telecom sector across the world. According to the report, there are two major trends that the networking giant can foresee. The first, obvious trend is the rise of 5G networks and consumers subscribing to the network. The second one being rise in mobile broadband to 6.1 bn unique subscribers by 2022.
The report points out that approximately half billion users will be connected to 5G networks by 2022 with almost quarter of all the mobile subscriptions opting for 5G connectivity.

Nearly 25 percent of all the 5G subscriptions in 2022 will come from North America, with the exact figure reaching 550 million. Asia Pacific will closely follow North America regarding the fastest growth of 5G subscribers with about 10 percent of the share. The Middle East and Africa will shift from predominantly GSM/EDGE only to approximately 80 percent of users being connected to WCDMA/HSPA and LTE. The report further points out that the mobile subscriber base is estimated to scale 6.8 billion with over 95 percent people being connected to 4G or 5G networks.
Ulf Ewaldsson, chief strategy and technology officer, Ericsson added, “Almost 90 percent of smartphone subscriptions are on 3G and 4G networks today and standardised 5G networks are expected to be available in 2020.” He further added that 5G would help Automation, IoT and big data.
The second major point discussed in the report was the rise of mobile broadband with approximately 6.1 billion unique subscribers by 2022. To set the context, the world added 84 million new mobile subscriptions during the third quarter of 2016 with India leading regarding net additions with 15 million, with China closely following with 14 million new mobile subscribers.

Ericsson also points out that the mobile video traffic will grow 50 percent every year through 2022, accounting for about 75 percent of all the mobile data traffic. Social Media traffic will be the second type of traffic that will dominate the mobile traffic growing 39 percent each year.
Currently, consumers are focusing on the live streaming aspect along with social networks to interact with friends, family and customers. Two in every five smartphone users are interested in live streaming apps in India and other high-growth countries like Brazil, Indonesia and Oman with the figure dropping to one in every five smartphone users in the United States of America.
Along with 5G and Mobile Broadband, IoT will also see significant growth, with approximately 29 billion devices connected to the internet, out of which 18 billion of the devices relating to IoT.

We have seen a shift of pattern in the recruitment industry in the last few years. We recently wrote about the data driven recruitment startup Belong, and now meet HackerRank that focuses on technical recruitment but in a unique way. The advent of technology has ensured that every company requires some form of tech backing and the demand for programmers has started to come from unexpected quarters. HackerRank offers platforms for both technical evaluations and solving programming challenges, disrupting the hiring pattern in the coding industry.
It was founded by college buddies and graduates of Computer Science from National Institute of Technology Trichy – Harishankaran Karunanidhi and Vivek Ravisankar in 2009. Apple products next year are likely to support 3D photography from their dual cameras, according to media reports. The stereoscopic imaging capabilities are the result of a joint effort between Apple and LG Innotek. LG has already put a 3D photography capable smartphone in the market, called the LG Optimus 3D P920.
The Korea Economic Daily cites a source who is aware of the developments as saying “Apple is now studying how to apply its 3D camera technology into LG Innotek’s smartphone camera.” LG Innotek is the exclusive supplier to the dual cameras in the current iPhone 7 Plus. 3D photographs can be viewed in a variety of ways, including head mounted displays or stereoscopic googles. A photo for each eye is needed to create 3D photos.

Last year, Apple acquired  an Israeli camera company known as LinX Computational Imaging Limited. The company was developing technologies for dual camera modules in smartphones, that were capable of taking both 2D and 3D photos. Additional capabilities of the cameras included measuring the dimensions of objects and refocusing of photos after the image has been clicked. Refocusing of images after a shot is possible on some dual camera smartphones, such as the Huawei Honour 8.

Apple iPad rumours have been doing the rounds of online world since August this year. But according to Taiwan supply chain makers quoted by Digitimes, the size of the upcoming iPad is being confirmed at 10.5-inch. The production for the same is expected to begin in December and the product unveil will happen in Q1 2017.
After the 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch form factors, the 10.5-inch iPad will be the fourth form factor from Apple.
According to Digitimes, the 10.5-inch display size has been selected as it seems to be the most popular size among enterprises and education sector in the US. The existing 9.7-inch form factor is deemed to small and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is on the expensive side of things.
Sources have said that the new 10.5-inch iPad will come with an Apple A10X processor which will also be used in the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Apple is also expected to launch low price version of the 9.7-inch iPad to compete with existing Android tablets. The 9.7-inch iPads are expected to be launched with the A9X processor which is present on the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pros.

Blu is facing a class action lawsuit in the US after mobile phones by the company were found to be secretly sending user information to servers in China. Blu admitted that it had updated firmware on phones to disable malware that collected text messages, call logs, and contacts from customers. The budget Android smartphones by Blu were affected by the malware.
Rosen Legal, a law firm that specialises in class action lawsuits, has posted a Consumer Security Alert. In the alert, Rosen Legal has announced that it has started investigating into the potential of a class action lawsuit against Blu. The alert asks Blu customers to check if their devices were affected by the malware. Rosen Legal has invited affected customers to participate in the class action lawsuit, with no cost to the users.
The backdoor to China was discovered by Kryptowire, an information security services company jumpstarted by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It was discovered that the data was being collected by the Chinese company Shanghai ADUPS. ADUPS released a statement saying that the firmware on the phone was not meant for those models, and is used in China to prevent spam. Blu promptly updated the firmware on their devices to prevent the data from being sent to China, and ADUPS deleted all the collected information.

Google has raised a red flag to prominent journalists, professors and scientists with regards to their accounts being under state-sponsored attack. If the multiple reports circulating online are to be believed, then the instances have increased in the past 24 hours, though Google is known to send such warnings since 2012.
The list of people (via Arstechnica) includes Paul Krugman, the Nobel prize winning New York Times columnist, Michael McFaul who is a Standford University professor and also a former US diplomat, Keith Olbermann of GQ, Foreign Policy columnist Julia Ioffe, YNew York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait, among others.
Slowly, many other have started taking to Twitter to reveal the warning. The warning reads: “Google may have detected government-backed attackers trying to steal your password.”
“The warning may be related to a spear-fishing campaign, tied by a security company to the Russian government, that was started soon after Donald Trump won the US presidential election,” Neowin report points out.
Many others believe that Trump is doing exactly what he had planned and cracking down on what he believes is dishonest media.
Google is asking these users to further strengthen their account security with stronger passwords and two-factor authentication. The report, citing Google spokesperson, adds that the recent warnings could be due to the hacking attacks that took place last month. The report adds that Google doesn’t turn on the warning signal instantly as it could alert the attackers of the detection method.
