Apple updates Apple Music for Android with a new UI to remove the clutter

Apple has revamped the Android version of Apple Music to bring “greater clarity and simplicity” to the app. The new update revamps the user interface of the app while bumping the version number to 2.0 for the app.

It is unclear if the revamp is limited to cosmetic changes that just changes the UI elements to remove the clutter or if it extends to the backend and how the services are executed in the app.

Here is the detailed changelog that came with the update:

• Now Playing. Read lyrics for songs as you listen.
• Library. Navigate your music easily and see the Downloaded Music you can play offline.
• For You. Get recommendations for playlists, albums, and more—based on music you love.
• Browse. Listen to new music first, plus playlists for any mood or activity.
• Radio. Tune in to Beats 1 shows or listen to stations for any genre.

The new version seems to have far lesser menus than the older menus and the scolling has reduced significantly.

According to a report by Android Police, the app seems to be more responsive and faster. One thing to note here is that Apple Music costs significantly cheaper in India than in United States.

In comparison, Apple Music subscription costs about Rs 120 per month for individuals, Rs 190 per month for family up to six members and Rs 60 per month for students in contrast to $9.99 it costs for individuals per month in United States.

Apple Music expected to get price cuts for single and family plans in the US

Apple Music is an excellent choice if you don’t want to carry a huge library of music. The service was launched last year and according to the last announcement by Apple, it has more than 17 million subscribers.

According to a report from Digital Music News, Apple could be planning to bring a price cut to to the streaming service. The price cut go as much as 20 percent as the company wants to compete with services like Spotify and Amazon Music.

A 20 percent discount would mean that the single subscription plan would go down from $9.99 (around Rs 660) to $7.99 (around Rs 527) per month. The family package, which allows for up to six members could also see price cut which means the $14.99 (Rs 990 approx) price point will now be $12.99 (Rs 860 approx). The $4.99 (Rs 330 approx) student plan will not see any changes.

Current price:
Single-person rate: $9.99 a month
Family rate: $14.99 a month
Student rate: $4.99 a month

New rumoured price:
Regular rate: $7.99 a month
Family package: $12.99 a month
Student rate: $4.99 a month

There is no info as of yet if the discounts will come to all countries. But one thing is sure that India will not get the price cut if Apple does plan to introduce them. The reason for this is that India already has some of the cheapest price plans globally. While there is no student plan, the single user plan is priced at just Rs 120 per month while the family plan is available at Rs 190 per month.

Nike+ Run Club update brings Apple Music integration, GPS for Apple Watch 2

Just as the Apple Watch Nike+ is all set to hit stores, Nike+ Run Club for iPhone and Apple Watch gets a notable update. The version 5.1 brings some bug fixes along with features such as Apple Music integration and support for GPS.

For Apple Music subscribers, Nike+ Run Club will completely support streaming playlists from the Nike app on iPhone. The new update also brings full support for watchOS 3.1 along with support for built-in GPS on Apple Watch Series 2. A subscriber can sync it to Apple Watch for offline playback too.

“Previously, the app was a bit on the basic side and wouldn’t map your runs when you ran without the iPhone,” points out 9To5Mac. Several features are said to be watchOS 3-specific including Siri to start, pause and end the run,  audio readouts from Watch speaker, and so on.

The changes include a redesigned summary screen, some easy sharing. “All runs will sync to Apple’s Health app, and that run settings will stay in place after updates,” Apple Insider said.

The Apple Watch Nike+ is similar to the Series 2 models, but features Run Club, extra watchfaces, along with a improved version of the Sport Band.

Nike+ Run Club is available for free from the App Store. For running enthusiasts, the water resistant Apple Watch Nike+ will be available in India starting today. Apple Watch Nike+ will be available in 38 mm at Rs 32,900 and 42mm at Rs 34,900 from Nike.com, select Nike retail stores, select Apple Authorised Resellers and select specialty stores.
