In an effort not to be outdone by rival Samsung, it appears that Apple's iPhones are exploding now as well. A Reddit user named kroopthesnooprecently posted an image link to the site that appears to show an iPhone 7 Plus, ordered by his or her coworker, that exploded in the package.

After the initial posting, kroopthesnoop added two updates to the post that claimed an Apple account executive had reached out regarding the damaged phone, and that the company is working with AT&T to send a replacement device to the coworker. However, these claims have not been verified by Apple, and neither Apple nor AT&T could be reached for comment.

Of course, this claim comes shortly after one of Apple's biggest rivals, Samsung, began dealing with its own exploding phones. In early September, Samsung acknowledged a "battery cell issue" in its Galaxy Note7 phones that led to overheating and "exploding devices."
This halted production and an initial company recall was put into effect. Samsung then issued an OTA update that capped battery life at 60% to hopefully prevent the devices from overheating. The US government formally issued its own recall in mid September, but the replacement devices still seem to be suffering from some of the same issues.
While iPhone 7 and 7 Plus sales started out strong initially, they were projected to grow even more due to the recall of the Note7. Now that Apple could be experiencing its own battery woes, it's unclear if, or how, this will affect device sales from the Cupertino tech giant.
As Reddit user Obiiiiiiii joked, "...Apple, always stealing features from Samsung."

Apple rival Samsung experienced similar issues with its Galaxy Note7, leading to multiple recalls.
It's unclear how this will affect iPhone sales, which were previously moving forward at a strong pace.
