Alleged OnePlus 5 camera samples leaked online; hint at a dual camera setup

Alleged OnePlus 5 camera samples leaked online; hint at a dual camera setup

After the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi Mi 6, everyone is eagerly waiting for the launch of the successor to the OnePlus 3T. According to previous reports, it is expected the OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 5 instead of the OnePlus 4.
The Chinese smartphone maker has not issued any statements for the launch of the upcoming flagship. However, despite the lack of clarity from OnePlus, the Internet is full of rumors about the OnePlus 5. According to a previous report, the device was spotted on a Chinese device certification website, hinting at a nearing launch date. The report was followed by a controversial render leaked by India Today.
According to the latest report, alleged photos taken with the cameras on the OnePlus 5 have leaked out. True-tech, was the first one to leak the photos online. According to the report on True-tech, the website sourced the image from an anonymous leaker. The report clarifies that it can’t provide any proof that these photos are the real deal or just clever editing of the metadata. The report includes a link to a .zip archive with full resolution images for users to download and examine for themselves.
The report suggests that the OnePlus 5 will feature a dual-camera on the back because some of the images have enhanced depth-of-field.
True-tech also suggests that the depth-of-field may have been added via software. The report goes on to add that the two sensors on the rear camera might both be 16 MP units.
We downloaded the images to examine the images and the EXIF data for ourselves. The images were unimpressive even though they seemed to have been shot in decent lighting conditions. Focus was also off in some images. The EXIF data seems to suggest that the OnePlus 5 will come with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box.
We can expect the smartphone to launch soon as June 2017 marks one year since the launch of the OnePlus 3, the last major upgrade by OnePlus in terms of hardware. The OnePlus 3T was a minor upgrade, so it doesn’t count.
There is no official word on when we can expect OnePlus to launch the OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 5 is expected to pack in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 8 GB RAM and 2K AMOLED display panel with an effective resolution of 2048×1080 with a 5.5-inch screen.

The OnePlus 3T will go on open sale on the OnePlus website from midnight on 12 April

The OnePlus 3T will go on open sale on the OnePlus website from midnight on 12 April

The OnePlus 3T, one of the crowd favourites, is going on sale on OnePlus India’s website. The phone will be available in Gunmetal and Soft Gold at prices starting at Rs 29,999. The open sale will start at midnight on 12 April.
The OnePlus 3T is a minor upgrade to the original OnePlus 3. It’s only significant features are a Snapdragon 821 processor, a 16 MP front camera and a larger battery. A 128 GB variant of the device is also available, which should retail for Rs 34,999.
As an upgrade to the OnePlus 3, it’s not that significant, but it’s enough to keep it competitive with current flagships in the market.
The fact that it’s going on sale on the OnePlus store at midnight today isn’t of much note because you can order the device right now on Amazon and even have it delivered to your house by tomorrow.
But hey, if you hate Amazon, for whatever reason, you now have the option to pick up the device from another location. An additional option.
In a press release, OnePlus points out that anyone purchasing the device from the OnePlus Store or on Amazon will be get a chance to meet Amitabh Bachchan in person and win Rs 1 crore.

Huawei runs past Oppo and Vivo in smartphone shipments in Q4 of 2016 in China

Huawei runs past Oppo and Vivo in smartphone shipments in Q4 of 2016 in China

China shipped 131.6 million smartphones in in the fourth quarter of 2016 with Huawei topping the list, followed by Oppo and Vivo, a new report said on Saturday. According to a report by Singapore-based market research firm Canalys, the smartphone shipments in China accounted for nearly a third of worldwide shipments.
“Smartphone shipments in China for the fourth quarter of 2016 were also the quarterly highest in the history. Shipments for all of the year came to 476.5 million units, rising 11.4 percent from 2015 levels,” Digitimes reported, quoting Canalys report. Huawei shipped 76.2 million units in China’s smartphone market in 2016, followed by Oppo with 73.2 million units and Vivo with 63.2 million.
“In 2016, the top three brands were competing with new product launches, go-to-market strategies and brand building,” Canalys research analyst Jessie Ding was quoted as saying. Xiaomi took the fourth spot while Apple fell to fifth place.
“In 2017, competition between Huawei, Oppo and Vivo will become much more intense, while their increasing scale and bargaining power within the industry will have a larger impact on device strategies of operators and open channel partners,” Ding predicted. This comes right after the reports that Xiaomi is facing some problems in the Chinese market and Oppo, Vivo and Huawei are pushing up with innovation.

OxygenOS Open Beta 9 with Android 7.0 Nougat now available for OnePlus 3

By
Another OxygenOS Open Beta is now out for the OnePlus 3, the older flagship from smartphone maker OnePlus. The new update addresses the issues of the previous one and has been improved in several key areas.
The same was announced on the official OnePlus forums where a staff member put out a post pointing out the changes and how users can hop aboard the beta train.
The changelog is as follows:
1 Added Expanded Screenshots
2 Shelf Design Optimizations
3 General UI Optimizations
4 DPI Optimizations
5 Battery Performance Optimizations
6 Stability and Performance Optimizations
7 General bug fixes
Users who have already jumped on to the Beta software, will get the update as via an OTA package. For those who are new, and would like to try out the same, you will need to flash the build via an ADB sideload.
The staff member also pointed out that the Beta software roll out is a limited time program, so the same could be disabled at time once the software team has received enough feedback.
A point to note is that the Beta software is currently only available for the OnePlus 3 and not the new OnePlus 3T model which was launched in India a few days ago.

OnePlus has announced the launch of newest update for OxygenOS for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users. The update for OnePlus 3 has just been launched, and it will be rolling out for all the users in a staged manner in the coming week. One thing to note is that the OxygenOS is still on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 and this update is not the stable version of the changes seen and done in OxygenOS Community Build release cycle.
Instead, this update is entirely different and fixes some of the issues being faced by the OnePlus 3 users. The update for OnePlus 3 comes a day later than the update for OnePlus 3T users. The OnePlus 3T update looks more like a bugfix for the users to install on the first day as not many users have received the device. The company has rolled out OxygenOS 3.5.3 as the first OTA for the newly launched smartphone which adds emergency calling for India, Motion detection in camera along with enhanced image quality.

OnePlus also added the OnePlus community app, updated and optimised the touch panel firmware for precision and updated GPS library. Also, OnePlus has redesigned the clock and calling UI for OnePlus 3T users along with increased stability. OxygenOS 3.2.8 update for OnePlus 3 will add 1080p video recording at 60fps, emergency calling, increased system stability and bug fixes. One important thing to note is that the company has also added optimisation for Snapchat on the OS level to fix the video calling and lags in scrolling.
The company seems to have followed up with its promise that it will be launched the updates for both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T at almost the same time. Another massive update is expected to launch somewhere early next month which will bring a whole bunch of features for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users including features like long screenshot, redesigned interface and other things along with OxygenOS Community Build based on Android Nougat 7.0. This comes right after the company announced that OnePlus 3T will start selling in India from December 2.

OnePlus is working on bringing latest software updates to all generations sold by the company. According to a recent report by Engadget, the company is planning to bring the latest version of Android, Android Nougat 7.0 to OnePlus 3 before the end of the year. The report says that the company will bring the beta version of Android Nougat 7.0 based Oxygen OS to its Community Builds before the end of this month with the final version rolling out before the end of the year.
The company teased that it is working on Android Nougat 7.0 a few weeks back in a teaser video on its Twitter account. OnePlus has received a lot of criticism for the slow pace of updates to its limited product lineup. The company has merged the OxgenOS, the global variant of its Android forked system and HydrogenOS, the variant shipped with OnePlus devices sold in China to improve the software update speed. This has resulted in improved alignment of resources and faster pace of updates.
The company also outlined its detailed Beta program in a blog post giving details about Android development in the company and the different branches like the internal build, community build and stable build. OnePlus has reassured users that it is working on Android Nougat updates for OnePlus 2 users. One this to point is that the track record of providing updates has vastly improved with the launch of OnePlus 3. However, things have not improved for OnePlus 2 or OnePlus X users.
OnePlus announced the rollout of new Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 based Oxygen OS 3.1.4 to OnePlus X users in coming days. This is the second update that the company has issued in a long time. The first major update (Marshmallow update) was pushed in October. The new update doesn’t bring any groundbreaking changes and limits itself to bug fixing for launcher and screen brightness while improving system stability and Google Security Patch for November. This comes right after the official confirmation that OnePlus 3T will launchwith Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 on November 15,2016.

OnePlus 3T confirmed to launch with Snapdragon 821 on 15 November

OnePlus 3T confirmed to launch with Snapdragon 821 on 15 November

By
OnePlus has confirmed it will launch Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 powered smartphone on 15 November. The company posted a tweet on its official Twitter handle with an official countdown format of “T-7” implying seven days to the launch. The company pointed out that the processor will be clocked at 2.35GHz, up from the factory default 2.15GHz. In contrast, Google Pixel XL comes with Snapdragon 821 clocked at 2.15GHz. It’s likely that the company will post one key component of specs every day heading to the launch to build up the excitement.
The 15-minute video clip posted on Twitter shows a stylised “T”, which could signify the alphabet from “OnePlus 3T”. The announcement will take place on 15 November 2016 at 1 PM EST which translates to 11:30 PM on Wednesday night. The event will be broadcasted live on the official Facebook page of OnePlus.
This comes right after Qualcomm announced that OnePlus is working on a device powered by Snapdragon 821 on its official Twitter handle. According to previous leaks, OnePlus 3T will come with an improved camera module with Sony IMX398, increased battery of 3300mAh and Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. Also, the smartphone is expected to cost $80 morethan OnePlus 3 and offer a new 128GB storage option along with a black variant. The new smartphone makes sense for the company if it wants to compete with the upcoming smartphones with Snapdragon 821 instead of the ‘old’ and ‘outdated’ Snapdragon 820.

OnePlus 3T has been in the rumour mill for quite some time and the existence of the Google Pixel makes even more sense for it to exist as the smartphone maker has no Daydream-ready smartphone. New coming in from Chinese social networking site Weibo now hints at a 17 November launch of the upcoming OnePlus 3T in London and it also sheds some light on what we can expect from it.
The information comes via Phone Arena from a credible source that has been accurate to some extent in the past. User Reviewer_Well hinted at the launch of the Daydream VR ready OnePlus 3T with refreshed internals. This would include a Daydream-ready hardware which for now stands at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, and 6GB RAM which has been the standard in the currently available OnePlus 3. Also expected is a bigger battery in
