MWC 2017: Meizu Super mCharge third gen fast-charging solution announced; claims full charge in 20 mins

MWC 2017: Meizu Super mCharge third gen fast-charging solution announced; claims full charge in 20 mins

By
Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has announced the third generation of its fast charging technology called Super mCharge at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Super mCharge uses a high-voltage direct charge method, which charges smartphone batteries at a quicker rate.
According to Meizu, its 11V/5A charging connector can provide a whopping 55W maximum power for accelerated charge timings of just 20 mins. The battery capacity Meizu is talking about is 3000 mAh. Oppo had shown off its Super VOOC fast charging technology at MWC 2016 which showed a 2500mAh battery sporting phone being fully charged in 15 mins flat.
Super mCharge technology uses Charge Pump Principle. This applies two groups of conversion circuits to directly output half of the voltage. According to Meizu, this increases the charging efficiency to 98 percent and ensures stable charging performance. The top temperature reached while using Super mCharge is 39 degrees C.
The data cable associated with the Super mCharge connector can support up to 160W, so as to ensure safety and durability while charging.
According to Meizu’s testing, a 3000mAh ATL battery is able to retain over 80 percent of the capacity even after 800 charge and discharge cycles, which ensures that the battery runs for over two years.
Speaking at the launch, Li Tao, supervisor of Meizu’s R&D team said, “Innovation isn’t an easy job, but we believe that success comes from passion. We’ve overcome numerous difficulties and obstacles to create the best technology for all.”

Meizu M3X and Pro 6 Plus Geekbench benchmark listing leaked online

By
Looks like Meizu is on track to release its latest smartphones – the Pro 6 Plus and the M3X. Both have been spotted on Geekbench according to a latest leak.

The Meizu Pro 6 Plus is expected to come with an unknown chipset (alleged to be Exynos 8890 according to GizChina) with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.48GHz, 4GB RAM and Android 6.0.1 out of the box. The phone will most likely come with the latest Flyme UI atop the Android OS. As seen in the benchmark, the Meizu Pro 6 Plus scores 1462  on the single-core test and 3693 on the multi-core test. These numbers aren’t really a representative of a high end device.

The other phone that was leaked online is the Meizu M3X. This shows the presence of a MediaTek MT6757 chipset with an octa-core processor which was clocked at 1.64GHz during the test. The M3X is expected to come with 3GB RAM and will have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow preloaded. The Meizu M3X shows strictly mid-range numbers in the test screenshot.
It looks like Meizu is working on many phones simultaneously. The Meizu X is expected to be launched today in China. It comes with a blue coloured body that resembled the Honor 8. It is expected to come with MediaTek Helio X20 which has a 10-core processor inside. It is also expected to come with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.
There is no word on when Meizu plans to launch the Meizu X in India. So we will have to wait and watch.

Meizu announces Pro 6s with 10-core processor, 4GB RAM, 12MP camera and more

Meizu announces Pro 6s with 10-core processor, 4GB RAM, 12MP camera and more

By
Meizu has announced an update to its Pro 6 smartphone in the form of the Pro 6s at an event in China. This phone looks like OnePlus 3 and iPhone 7 had a love-child. In fact, the Meizu Pro 6s also features 3D touch, just like the current gen iPhone. The Pro 6s is priced at CNY 2699 (approx Rs 27,000).
The Meizu Pro 6s comes with an aluminum unibody design with rounded corners. The antenna lines are visible on the rear side of the Pro 6s. It sports a 5.2-inch display with Full HD resolution. It houses the 10-core processor sporting MediaTek Helio X25 chipset which has Mali T880 MP4 GPU and is paired with 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of storage which cannot be expanded.
In terms of camera, you get a 5MP front-facing unit whereas on the rear you have a 12MP camera with Sony IMX386 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera is different from the 21MP unit with f/2.2 aperture that is seen on the Pro 6. The Pro 6s also comes with 4-axis optical image stabilisation. It has a 10-LED dual tone flash ring, just like the Pro 6. In terms of AF, the Pro 6s camera supports phase detect and laser assist autofocus.
The Pro 6s has a 3060mAh battery. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with Meizu’s Flyme OS atop it.
There is no news on when the phone will launch in India.

Qualcomm files actions against Meizu in the US, Germany and France

Qualcomm files actions against Meizu in the US, Germany and France

Qualcomm says it has taken actions to address Meizu’s infringement of its patents in the United States, Germany and France.
It has filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) and also filed a patent infringement action in Germany with the Mannheim Regional Court. It has also initiated an infringement-seizure action in France to obtain evidence for a possible future infringement action there.
Earlier in June 2016, Qualcomm had filed complaint against Meizu in Chinese court over licensing disagreements. The filing by San Diego-based Qualcomm, submitted to the Beijing Intellectual Property Court , was the first legal action by Qualcomm as it seeked to uphold terms of its landmark 2015 anti-trust settlement with China’s economic policy panel, the National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC). By July, reports revealed that Qualcomm had filed 17 complaints in China against Meizu Technology Co, stepping up its battle with the Chinese smartphone maker after the two were unable to reach a licensing accord in the US tech giant’s biggest market.
“Meizu’s refusal to negotiate a license agreement in good faith and its sales and distribution of infringing products around the world leave Qualcomm with no choice but to protect our patent rights through these additional legal proceedings,” said Don Rosenberg, executive vice president and general counsel, Qualcomm Incorporated.
